So what’s a middle-aged man doing keeping a weblog?  Well, I don’t have a good answer but I have several mediocre answers.

  1. I’m a scientist (i.e., certified geek) and I like this particular use of computers and the internet.
  2. My advisor in graduate school told me that every real scientist should keep a lab notebook and a personal journal.  That is, a record of your work and of your life.  This can be mine.
  3. I used to email my family about all the fun stuff that the kids were doing when they were little and that little project morphed into a weblog.
  4. I have an unreasonably hopeful idea that one day, my kids (or perhaps even a more forgetful me) will be curious about what was going on in our lives through the years.  This is easier than compiling all that home video tape.

    Greg,

We’ve left DFW for East Texas. Drop me an email with the address you’re using these days.

I am looking to model your orrey in SolidWorks for fun, but have come up empty handed when it comes to actual plans. Not sure if you are able to help, but I figured it was worth a shot. Thank You.
